Parks & Recreation Educational Event: Wildflowers

Explore the beauty and variety of local wildflowers in this free, family-friendly program presented by the Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River.
Free to attend.
Open for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
19th Annual Zane Grey Festival
Zane Grey's legacy of literature and sportsmanship lives on in Lackawaxen! Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River, and the Zane Grey's West Society will host the 19th Annual Zane Grey Festival. This free festival will be held on the grounds of the Zane Grey Museum, 135 Scenic Drive in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 12th, 2025.
The Zane Grey Festival is geared towards fun for the entire family with many activities for children and adults throughout the day including: a live birds of prey show, horse-drawn wagon rides, a demonstrations of the "Ring of Fire" by Steamtown National Historic Site, and much more! There will also be craft activities available for children of all ages, a scavenger hunt, primitive skills demonstrations, live music, and weaving demonstrations.
Come join the fun and learn more about the Western novelist from Lackawaxen.
1st Annual Duck Derby
Join us for the 1st Annual Duck Derby on July 12th as 1,000 rubber ducks race down the beautiful Lackawaxen River!
Rain Date, July 13th.
After the winners cross the finish line, join us at Veterans Memorial Park for a duck-themed community event for all ages.

How Does the Duck Derby Work?
It's time to get quacking! Here's how the 1st Annual Duck Derby works:
Purchase Your Ticket: Just $5 each! Your ticket number will be marked on a rubber duck that will race down the Lackawaxen River.
The Race: While we don’t encourage watching the actual race on the water, the first 10 ducks to cross the finish line will be announced at the Duck-Themed Community Event at Veterans Memorial Park starting at 3PM.
Sponsored Prizes: Prizes for the first 10 ducks are sponsored by local businesses!
Duck-Themed Fun: After the race, join us for duck-themed games, delicious food, and a fun-filled sense of community spirit.
Stay for the Show: As the sun sets, enjoy the movie Howard the Duck on the big screen at dusk.

Vintage Baseball Game
Vintage Baseball Game
Come one, come all and take a step back in time in Lackawaxen, PA with the Mountain Athletic Club and the Elizabeth Resolutes as they go head-to-head in a vintage baseball game set for 12:00PM Saturday August 23, 2025, at Veterans’ Memorial Park. The National Park Service and the Zane Grey’s West Society cordially invite the public to help cheer on these baseball clubs who play by the 1867 & 1895 baseball regulations while dressed in vintage uniforms.
Why a vintage baseball game in Lackawaxen? Before author Zane Grey began his famed writing career, he attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on a baseball scholarship while studying dentistry. Grey’s passion and talent for baseball would lead him to play for the Orange Athletic Club in New Jersey after graduating college. Even though Grey’s minor league baseball career was short lived, it would lead him to write on the topic including The Red Headed Outfielder, The Short Stop, and The Young Pitcher.
This free event will surely be fun for the whole family. Children are encouraged to show up in their local baseball and softball uniforms to show their team spirit and for a fantastic photo opportunity with the vintage baseball teams and the life sized cut out of Zane Grey in his baseball uniform.
